TSHA

London based DJ and producer Teisha Matthews (who records under the pseudonym TSHA) is rapidly emerging as one of the most exciting talents coming out of the UK. Her approach to music is diverse and intricate, giving foundation to her unique personal style that draws on influences from the likes of Bonobo, Jon Hopkins, Floating Points and Four Tet.

TSHA released her long-awaited debut album Capricorn Sun via Ninja Tune in 2022. Recorded over two years, the record delivers on the promise of her previous EP’s and singles with 12 tracks that perfectly encapsulate the emotive blend of underground electronic and hook-laden pop sensibilities that have led to her being one of the most talked about new artists of the past few years. From gracing the front cover of high-profile magazines, appearing on numerous billboards, being included in flagship playlists and programmes by multiple streaming services and being placed on countless Best of & One to Watch lists, alongside high-praise from across the music press and radio – TSHA shows no sign of slowing down.

The album follows her recent compilation for the revered fabric presents series and an immense touring schedule that has seen her booked for over 100 shows across 2021/22, including opening for Disclosure at their two Alexandra Palace shows, performing to 40,000 fans across the West Coast of America with Bob Moses, a run of North American shows with Flume — including a stop at Colorado’s iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre — a festival run that included a set at Glastonbury and an ongoing residency at Ibiza’s DC-10 for Circoloco to name just a few.

Hotly tipped by everyone from Annie Mac, Zane Lowe, Bonobo and Gorillaz to Billboard, NME, Crack, Mixmag and DJ Mag, TSHA is rapidly emerging as one of the most exciting talents coming out of the UK. Her recent EP OnlyL‘ showcased a confident creative who is constantly developing and refining her own distinct feel and sound.

Teisha set out to release her debut multi-track release with the EP Dawn, a body of work that encompasses her full creative range and showcases her exciting new approach to songwriting and melodic composition. Blending rich electronic textures with delicately driving tribal rhythms, TSHA creates a euphoric soundscape that plays tribute to her eclectic musical background and leaves in anticipation as to what the future holds for this refreshing new talent.

In 2020, Teisha released the EP Flowers via Ninja Tune, featuring collaborations with Gabrielle Aplin and Malian griot group Trio Da Kali.

2021 was an incredible year for TSHA. In September she graced Mixmag’s Cover and was the face of Spotify’s EQUAL campaign highlighting women who define the past, present and future of music. She wrapped up her Jackfruit Radio series for Apple 1, featuring guests Maribou State, Bradley Zero, Effy, Daniel Avery and Elkka; released her first BBC Essential Mix and a Minimix for Annie Mac’s BBC R1 show; and was named BBC Radio 1’s Future Artist for January 2021 and Star of 2020 by BBC Introducing. Zane Lowe described TSHA as “an absolute club superstar. DJ, producer… one of the most exciting voices making club records”. Additional support on OnlyL EP came from the likes of FADER, Resident Advisor, Mixmag, DJ Mag, Dancing Astronaut, XLR8R, Magnetic Mag, This Song Is Sick, Vinyl Factory, Northern Transmissions and more, with NME hailing her “pop songwriting flair” in their 4/5 review.

She has composed for TV – with credits including for Robert Popper‘s Channel 4 TV mini-series I Hate You.
