Joby Talbot is a British composer, creating music for concert, stage and screen.
In 2000, Joby’s score to the primetime comedy The League of Gentlemen won the Royal Television Society Award for Best Title Music and a series of commissions followed from BBC television including Chambers, Grass, Wild West and Psychoville.
Joby went on to score the The League of Gentlemen’s Apocalypse and the same year, 2005, wrote the music for the cinema adaptation of The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy. Since then, Joby has scored Sixty Six, Hunky Dory and Closed Circuit for Working Title, Arctic Tale and Penelope for Paramount, Son of Rambow, Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, Franklyn, Is Anybody There? and Burke and Hare for Ealing Films.
As a classical composer, Joby has worked with all the major UK orchestras and has been commissioned by the BBC Proms. In 2006, Joby produced and arranged an album of tracks by The White Stripes entitled Aluminium. The album received critical acclaim and was the basis of a new choreography performed by The Royal Ballet at London’s Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. In 2011, Joby wrote the score to Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland , a commission by the Royal Ballet. The production is now touring internationally. The production was such a success, in 2014 Joby was commissioned again by the Royal Ballet to write for a musical production of The Winter’s Tale. His first opera, Everest, had its premiere in Dallas at the end of January 2015.
Having scored the hugely popular Garth Jennings-directed animated feature Sing! from Illumination Entertainment, home to the Despicable Me/Minions franchise, Joby returned for the sequel, Sing 2, released in late 2021.
