Anna Phoebe

Anna Phoebe is a violinist and composer working on cross-genre solo and collaborative projects, a broadcaster with a show on Soho Radio, and a Board Director at the Ivors Academy.

Anna’s album Sea Souls and its sister release Sea Souls (live) are rich musical responses to the natural world, exploring the dialogue between sea and psyche. It has received widespread radio support, including from Scala Radio, BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 6 Music, Soho Radio, BBC Radio London, and KEXP. Last year saw the release of Sea Souls Reworks, featuring new versions from artists including High Contrast, Alexandra Hamilton-Ayres, Hinako Omori and Slow Meadow.

As a composer for screen, Anna recently scored the hit Apple TV+ period drama series, The Buccaneers alongside Aisling Brouwer. Accompanying the duo’s score on the Original Soundtrack are songs created for the show by artists such as Warpaint, Gracie Abrams and more. Other recent credits include the Channel 4 documentary Surviving Dad; and ITV’s two-part Wear the Rose documentary about the England team’s journey to the 2022 Women’s Rugby World Cup.

She won Best Composer at BAFTA-affiliated Underwire Film Festival for her score for Belittled (feat. Kiran Sonia Sawar; dir. Claire Tailyour) and was nominated for Best Composer for Harriet and the Matches (feat. Cillian Murphy; dir. Miranda Howard-Williams). Other composer credits include Ethel (feat. Miriam Margolyes, Elijah Baker, Professor Green; dir. Jonathan Wright). Anna has also recently composed music for the award-winning ten-part audiobook series The Effect for Audible, as well as the BBC Radio 4 drama Barred. In 2022, she scored and produced the music for Almost Invisible Angels with Sam Lee, a collaboration with Jay Griffiths and Writers Rebel that was narrated by Mark Rylance. Her music has featured in campaigns for Apple, WWF, Vodafone, Zegna, Canyon, and BT Sport in association with UEFA.

Her instrumental duo AVAWAVES is signed to One Little Independent Records (home to Björk and Skunk Anansie). They released their second album, Chrysalis, in 2021. They also recently scored the multi-award-winning feature documentary Savage Waters (dir. Mikey Corker), which won Best Original Soundtrack at the 2022 Richard Harris International Film Festival.

Anna has co-written with Ivor Novello Lifetime Achievement recipient Nitin Sawhney CBE for his album Immigrants, released in March 2021 on Sony Masterworks; and she recorded with legendary musician and TV personality Jools Holland for his solo album Pianola: Piano and Friends on Warner Music.
